Meeting at the top of the escarpment before starting the bike ride. Start with a safety briefing, test-ride your bike and introduction to hand-signal. We pedal along the snack fruits plantation, undulating terrain of the ridgeline, on a quiet road with colourful flowers at every turn, and moss-covered shrines under giant fig and banyan trees.

We stop to visit a bee farm, developed and operated by a hearing-impaired couple with a great story and amazing honey​

 Enjoy a swim in the blue waters of this stunning beach,​ alongside black volcanic cliffs, then sit down to an​ authentic local lunch.

Dust off those hiking equipment on your shelves and wake that long-buried active and adventurous inner self. Explore the hidden trails of the Manggis area on this challenging, but rewarding walk to Jagasatru Waterfall and on to the top of the range of mountains that Kaura sits on. 

The walking starts from the doorsteps of Kaura and takes you immediately into small trails that weave through the gardens and yards of the village residents who are always welcoming and pleased to see you. Guided by the local who knows this route like it is the back of his hand, this 3.5 hours walk will get your heart rates up quite quickly but after the first 40 minutes, it levels out slightly as we start to work our way across the gully. Our hiking guide are from the community and have a good rapport with the people, making this a warm, engaging experience.

Before going down to the Jagasatru Waterfall, at the top of the hill, our standby team member would be at the ready to recharge you with snacks, fruits, and water refill. Fun fact, this hill is also the place where the big statue of Brahma located in the east side of the island. It is one of the three Gods in Hinduism resembling balance of the island, with Wisnu in GWK (Garuda Wisnu Kencana) (south) and Shiva in Tabanan (west) to create some sort of triangle of balance in the island. The waterfall is a stunning site and the pool formed at its base is a great spot to cool-off. With the natural waters flowing down, there is a pool for people to do a water blessing just below this waterfall. At the waterfall, there is time for a dip in the fresh cold pool at the foot of the falls.

Continue your journey through the jungle to reach the third stopping point. This stop is where the locals create Arak, a local alcohol drinks that came from palm trees. Established since 1972 with now third generation as the current owner, you would see the traditional distillation process using bamboo and firewood-fuelled stove. For the adventurous self, be careful that the first-class Arak said to be containing 50% alcohol. Next, the meeting point with the driver to take you back to the hotel is located at an abandoned villa that once-most- prestigious-villa in the area.

Learn how to cook traditional Balinese food with one of the local foodies from the Manggis Women Farmer Group. They are a group of women who strive to promote organic gardening in this lovely village located in the East of Bali. 

Besides having exceptional skills in growing organic plants, they are also marvelous cooks, especially in Balinese cuisine.

Upon arrival in the village of Manggis, guests will be harvesting vegetables in a green organic garden and foraging for wild edible plants to enhance their cooking experience. Additionally, guests will have the opportunity to prepare a 6 traditional Balinese dishes. 

Explore the secrets of Balinese cuisine and its exotic flavors with this three-course culinary experience. The dishes menu would refer to the season and what’s available in the garden and the food forest. 

The women will guide you through the preparation of dishes using the freshest ingredients, traditional cooking tools, just as they do in local homes and villages. Learn some tips and tricks from them on how to use exotic spices in your cooking and discover their benefits.

Afterward, indulge yourself in culinary pleasures while enjoying your lunch with a beautiful view overlooking the fascinating surroundings with your host.

Leave the busy streets of South Bali behind and spend the day with us at Kaura Bali, surrounded by the green hills and rice fields of Manggis
village. 

After hotel pick-up, your family is welcomed by our local hosts before the young explorers receive their own Nature Walk Bingo cards and set off on a guided adventure through rice fields, along ancient subak irrigation canals, and into the tropical forest surrounding Kaura.

Together, we look for frogs hiding beside the water, tiny fish swimming through the canals, butterflies dancing between the leaves, and birds calling from the treetops. Along the way, discover cacao pods, mangosteen trees, beetles, wild flowers, and all the little things most travelers usually walk straight past.

Back at Kaura, it’s time to slow down. Sit down for a freshly prepared lunch, take in the views across the green valley, and if you feel like it, cool off with a swim in Kaura’s beautiful pool.

In the afternoon, the adventure turns colorful as flowers, leaves, and fruits become natural paints in Kaura’s hands-on dye workshop. Each child creates their own shirt or tote bag to take home, a little piece of Bali made by their own hands.

As the colors dry and fresh fruit and local snacks are served, there’s time to share stories, compare discoveries, and maybe realize that the best part of the day wasn’t something you saw… but something you did together.

Finally, we return you comfortably to your hotel in Ubud or South Bali, a little dirtier, a little happier, and carrying something truly made in
Bali.
